We are looking for volunteers to spend the day removing invasive species at Barr Creek Conservation Area. During this work party we will focus on slowing the spread of English ivy. We will be cutting vines that are growing up trees and selectively pulling those that are growing on the forest floor.
What to expect: During the work party we will walk along the road a short ways and enter the forest where we will be traveling off trail. The ground here is uneven and many trip hazards exist. Cutting ivy may require volunteers to kneel, and bend, and we will expect volunteers to carry ivy to designated compost piles. All techniques and plant identification will be demonstrated at our site orientation and no prior experience is required.
Supplies to bring: Long sleeved shirt and pants, warm layers, rain gear, sturdy footwear, water for the day, snacks and lunch, and a backpack/bag to keep your personal belongings in during the work day.
