Warehouse Volunteer - Helping Hands Food Bank

Get Connected Icon Get Connected Icon ongoing

Description

After checking in with the Food Procurement and Inventory Manager and putting on gloves, the volunteer will stand or sit and sort produce/other food items determining if the food is edible or inedible. If the produce is inedible, it is put in a bucket and taken to local pig farmers. If the produce is edible, it is sorted into crates. Once the crates are filled, they are stacked on a pallet or taken directly to the grocery store.

This volunteer opportunity is great for all abilities. Most volunteers chat and get to know each other while sorting produce while some put on headphones and listen to music.

Time Commitment:

  • Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
  • Saturdays, 7:30 am - 12:00 pm

Volunteers are welcome to volunteer for as long as they’d like between the hours listed above.

Requirements:

  • Tolerance for repetitive motion
  • Willingness to handle some slightly squishy produce on occasion
  • Layers are encouraged as warehouse temperatures can fluctuate
  • Closed toe shoes are required in the warehouse
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs ideal, but not required
