CHOW - Cutting Hunger on the Weekends, is our program that provides meals for kids across the Skagit Valley. The CHOW station will be set up for volunteers by warehouse staff. Volunteers will break down larger packages into smaller serving sizes, gloves are required.
Each CHOW bag is packed with…
- Two breakfast servings, which is either two store bought cereal packages or one ziplock bag
- Two lunch servings, usually mac and cheese, chili, or soup
- Four snacks, often granola bars, Jell-O, fruit snacks, fruit cups, etc.
All of these are packed into a plastic bag, sealed with a knot, and put into a large storage box.
Time Commitment:
- Bags are packed daily, Monday - Saturday, depending on volunteer availability
- Volunteers are encouraged to pack bags for at least an hour, but other than that it’s really up to you how long you’d like to volunteer.
Requirements:
- Tolerance for repetitive motion
- Layers are encouraged as warehouse temperatures can fluctuate
- Closed toe shoes are required in the warehouse
