Description

Join us to see the newest portion of the Hurn Field Conservation Area! This wooded area features a wetland and is adjacent to the hayed portion of the property and elk viewing pullout. We will be planting native species to enhance forest habitat for wildlife!

The field also provides foraging habitat for a variety of insect eating animals such as swallows, swifts, flycatchers, and several species of bats. Rodents and small birds living in the open field feed on insects and attract birds of prey such as northern harriers, owls, hawks, and eagles. House Slough, which is also on this property, is accessible to fish from the Skagit River and provides rearing habitat for juvenile Coho salmon and trout. The slough also currently features several beaver dams and lodges. Our work in the forested area will provide better habitat connectivity for the many species that call this area home.
