Description

#Optoutside with Skagit Land Trust! We invite you to spend Black Friday outdoors with us for stewardship work and fun! Join us at Cumberland Creek for a 2 hour work party followed by a 1 hour guided nature walk and scavenger hunt to the Skagit River. Please feel free to join us for just one or both activities. We will be removing invasive blackberry near the edges of the trail from 10:30 - 12:30. Then, from 12:30 - 1:30 we will lead a nature walk along relatively flat, but muddy terrain from Cumberland Creek to the Skagit River. There will also be fun activities during the work party for kids, so please feel free to bring them along to this family friendly event!

Cumberland Creek Conservation Area was acquired primarily to protect the salmon habitat found in the swales and side channels present on the property, and as a final part of a larger restoration effort to allow the Skagit to reclaim the Cumberland peninsula. The majority of the property features young forest, dominated by deciduous trees and a few interspersed conifers. Cumberland Creek is used as habitat for salmon, coyotes, deer, elk, beaver and various birds.

Directions: Take the South Skagit Hwy 12 to 13 miles east from SR 9, outside of Clear Lake. Look for the house number 34183 on the north (left) side of the road. Turn north into the driveway, then left at the fork to enter the Trust property. There is a gate in the road, and a trail beyond.
