Are you intrigued by the wonders of streams and interested in finding out more about how they function? Applications for participation in the 2019 Skagit Stream Team Program are currently being accepted! The Skagit Stream Team program provides a citizen science opportunity for local residents, age 18 and up, to participate in “hands on” water quality monitoring and to gain an understanding of the relationship between natural factors, land use impacts, and a stream’s health. Participants will collect water quality data approximately once a month in the Samish Bay, Padilla Bay, Kulshan Creek, Trumpeter basin, Gages Slough, Ace of Hearts, or Nookachamps watersheds (time commitment is approximately 2 – 4 hours a month through June of 2020).
Volunteers are supplied with FREE TRAINING, a manual, equipment, and supplies. All volunteers also gain the opportunity to learn new skills, gain new insights, network with local experts, meet new friends, and participate in a fun and worthwhile community project! Applications to participate in the 2019 training must be received by the Skagit Conservation District by Friday, Sept. 6, 2019. The training will be held at the Padilla Bay Research Reserve from 6 pm to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 11th and Thursday, September 12th and from 9 am to 2:30 pm on Saturday, September 14th. New volunteers must attend all three training sessions.
