Learn effective techniques for involving community volunteers as part of your agency’s overall Community Engagement Strategy. Polish up existing volunteer manuals, policies and procedures, or create a new one for the agency as a whole and/or several specific programs. Review recent trends in volunteerism, each stage of volunteer engagement, and share best practices with other volunteer managers from diverse nonprofit and government agencies. Each participant will leave the workshop series with at least an outline, detailed to-do list, templates, and timeline for completing a Volunteer Engagement Handbook. Each module of the workshop will include a special focus on how to engage youth volunteers in each phase of the volunteer engagement cycle.

Audience:

This training series is appropriate for volunteer managers of all levels, executive directors, board members, churches, civic clubs and other groups mobilizing volunteers. We recommend at least two staff and/or volunteers from each agency attend to develop a team dedicated to completing a Volunteer Engagement Handbook.

Curriculum:

This training builds on the Points of Light Foundation Hands on Network Volunteer Management curriculum, which has been presented widely throughout the state through the 15 Volunteer Centers of Washington (VCW) member agencies. VCW has developed pilot materials on managing youth volunteers, and that content will be presented for the first time in Skagit County during this series.

Presenter:

Elizabeth Jennings, Community Engagement Manager for Community Action and the Skagit Volunteer Center, has managed volunteer programs for local, national and international organizations for 20 years. She has provided nonprofit management education for groups ranging from small grass-roots groups to multi-million-dollar organizations, state associations, government agencies, churches and through programs at the University of Wyoming, Snowy Range Nonprofit Institute and Western Washington University.
