Description

Are you interested in supporting victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault? Do you want to end domestic violence and sexual assault in our community?

This volunteer opportunity provides hands on advocacy experience with crisis intervention and advocacy-based counseling. The Direct Services Advocate will have the opportunity to work directly with victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Every Direct Services Advocate must complete and certify in our 42-hour Core Advocacy Training prior to service with clients. 

Requirements:

  • Must successfully complete a background check
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must be willing to follow directions given by supervisors
  • Must possess patience and tolerance
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of our clients and shelter
  • Ability to handle the stress of crisis work and respond to many demands simultaneously
  • Sensitivity and knowledge of the issues regarding domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse economic, cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with community organizations.
  • Ability to complete advocacy core training
